Why isn’t my headphone-jack card reader working on my HTC phone?

It is recommended to disable Beats Audio on your HTC phone before connecting the reader. This feature has been known to cause connection problems with headphone-jack style card readers. Please refer to HTC or your phone’s user manual for help disabling Beats Audio.
